Local Information : Norway
- Norway is a large country with a population of just over four million people.
- It is bordered by Sweden, Denmark and Iceland.
- Many Norwegian people speak good English.
- Crime is low.
- The flight to Trondheim airport from Stansted is direct and takes just two and a half hours. It is also relatively cheap, with return flights typically costing somewhere around one hundred and twenty pounds or 160 euros.
- You need a passport to enter Norway and it is not an EEC country.
- In the summer the weather is usually very pleasant and
similar to that in England. Of course it can rain (we hope so!) but the typical temperature is somewhere between sixteen
and twenty five degrees. Warm sunny days are common.
- Visitors should bring t-shirts and shorts but also warm fleeces and waterproofs and wear decent walking boots. If you want to visit the mountains or the wilderness both base and mid-layer fleeces and under-trousers are advisable. Layered clothing systems work best.
- In high summer the daylight is 24 hours with a brief twilight period in the middle of the night.
- It has its own currency the Norwegian Kroner.
