Salmon Fly Fishing
Winsnes Fishing Lodge offers salmon fly fishing on two areas, flaskholen and GFF/MALUM Winsnes. Both are exclusive fly fishing area located on the middle Gaula approx 22km above the town of Storen.
Flaskholen is an exclusive 6 man fly fishing beat that produced 205 salmon in 2012. Consisting of four beats, the fishing is for eighteen hours a day, six days a week. It is prime fly water. Fishing is eighteen hours a day with a six hour rest period to allow the pools to recover and provide anglers with the best chance of catching fish. In general, Gaula is heavily fished and those areas that are fished relentlessly tend to get tough when the fish are not running but are settled into known pools. Resting periods have proved to be very effective wherever they have been tried on the river. Flaskholen is arguably the most exclusive fly fishing for salmon on the whole river.
GFF/Malum Winsnes offers fishing on thirteen different pools located between the fishing lodge and just above Storen. a car is essential to cover the beats. There are 24 rods fishing the 13 pools and fishing is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. GFF has a reputation for consistently producing salmon but tends to favour those whom fish very hard and to a high standard.
The season on Gaula is from the 1st of June until the last day of July. Bothareas a re very popular and prime weeks are hard to come by. In choosing between the two, Flaskholen is slightly more expensive but will suit anglers whom do not want to compete with others when they are salmon fishing. In addition to fine salmon fishing, the Winsnes lodge also offers other fly fishing options for trout and grayling on rivers, streams and lakes.
