LAX Café and Pub
The Lax Cafe and pub is the place to meet in the Gaula valley. It has a full alcohol licence and also offers catering both on and off site. The unique atmosphere of the Lax Café can be attributed to the building design.
Located on the Winsnes site, the Lax Café and Pub is part of a centre that includes a fishing lodge and guest house accomodation and a fly fishing shop.
Built using the structure of a barn that was part of the original Winsnes Farm from several hundred years ago, the barn was constructed in the eighteenth century and refurbished in 2010. The Lax Cafe retains the original architecture of the traditional building and much of the furniture is original to the Winsnes farm (indeed, almost all the furniture was made by members of the Winsnes family on the farm).
A meeting place for both local people and tourists, the Lax Cafe and Pub is open seven days a week during the high summer (June to August) and on Fridays and Sundays at other times of the year. It is open for group bookings and special events at any time.
Visitors enjoy the well-stocked bar which includes a full-range of alcohol and soft drinks (the beer is available on draught and in bottles with individual beers from Scandinavia, Germany, Ireland and the UK). Food is available on site. This includes a selection of bar food during normal opening hours or special catering for events and groups. The kitchen caters for traditional Norwegian Food for our local customers.
Located directly above the Lax Café and Pub is the Lax Fishing Tackle Shop – a full-service fly fishing shop that is open during the summer months. Next to the café there is a casting pool which is available to fly fishing groups that may wish to hold events at the Lax Café.
Facilities at the Lax Café include large TV, seating and tables for over 100 people, toilets, disabled access, meeting and conference facilities.
Individuals and Friends – drop in for a drink and bite to eat
Families – take advantage of our special catering days serving home-cooked Norwegian Food.
Events – we can be booked for meetings, weddings, confirmations etc.,
Outside Catering – we can take orders for food to be prepared at Winsnes and delivered off-site for special events such as confirmations, weddings, funerals, meetings etc.,
Companies – hold meetings, conferences and parties. Take advantage of the seven double rooms we have available at the Winsnes Lodge (located next door).
