Useful Information
Car Hire
When fishing Gaula it is important to have a hire car. Our salmon pools are spread over a distance of some thirteen kilometres. Since guests fish four pools every 24 hours, being able to get around on your own is vital.
Itinerary
Guests will arrive on Sunday, usually in the afternoon. At Vaernes airport they should pick up a hire car and then drive to Winsnes, a trip of some one and a quarter hours. If you wish, we can arrange to meet you at the airport and show you the way. After arriving at the Lodge they will receive a welcome talk and meet their fishing guide. Following coffee or tea during which guests discuss a fishing plan for the week with their guide, you will go to the river where the guide will take them on an orientation tour of the pools on the GFF rotation. After dinner most guests go fishing for the evening. After that, fishing is available 24 hours per day – how much you fish is up to you!
Rod Sharing
In high summer it is possible to fish for 24 hours. Even the hardcore can’t fish a whole week for 24 hours a day and that is why we offer rod sharing. Two or more rods can share a rotation meaning that a group of friends can organise themselves to fish as it suits them. Rod-sharing saves money (and allows at least some sleep!) because the fishing costs are shared between one or more anglers. Only two anglers can fish a beat at the same time.
Public Zone Salmon Fishing
There are a number of public fishing beats on Gaula and whilst they do not offer the same quality of fishing as on the GFF water, they are nonetheless pools that produce salmon. Prices tend to be between 200 and 500 kr per day. Guests should be aware that the public zones allow spin and worm fishing as well as fly and the areas can sometimes get busy.
